2 Juveniles & 2 Females Shot In EC Sunday Night

On Sunday, 02-28-2021 at approximately 9:09 P.M. East Chicago Officers were dispatched to the area of 1205 W. Chicago Avenue in reference to shots fired, according to Deputy Chief Jose Rivera. Shot Spotter alerted to 17 rounds being fired in the area. Prior to Officers arriving on scene they were advised that (4) gunshot victims were at 4924 Walsh Avenue, Rivera said.

Officers responded to 4924 Walsh Avenue and located all 4 victims as well as the vehicle they were in when they were shot. The victims were identified as:

Victim #1: Female  (23 years old) of East Chicago. Suffered a single gunshot wound to the right upper back area. She was transported to Christ Memorial in serious but stable condition.

Victim #2: Female (20 years old) of Sauk Village, Illinois. Suffered a single gunshot wound to the left forearm. She was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in stable condition.

Victim #3: Male juvenile (16 years old) of East Chicago. Suffered a single gunshot wound to the right ankle. He was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in stable condition.

Victim #4: Female juvenile (7 years old) of East Chicago. Suffered a single gunshot wound to the right forearm. She was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in stable condition.

Preliminary investigation indicates that the 4 victims went to the Fuel Stop Gas Station located at 1205 W. Chicago Avenue at approximately 9:09 P.M. The 2 adult victims entered the gas station while the 2 juvenile victims stayed inside the car, which was parked near the gas pumps, Rivera told RNS. The 2 adult victims noticed a male and female inside the gas station staring at them as they were purchasing items. The 2 adult victims purchased their items and exited the gas station without incident.

When they returned to their vehicle the male that was inside the gas station staring at them exited the gas station. The 2 adult victims then stated they heard some loud popping noises and realized that they were being shot at and drove away to a family member’s home on the 4900 block of Walsh Avenue where they called the police.
