Liberty Township — A family, including two children, safely escaped a mobile home fire Saturday morning after working smoke detectors alerted them to danger in time to get out.
According to fire officials, crews were dispatched at approximately 9:35 a.m. on April 4 to the 100 block of Leslie Way in the Forest Oaks Mobile Home Park. Upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke coming from the residence.
Authorities say the occupants had already evacuated after their smoke detectors activated, providing an early warning that likely prevented serious injury or worse.
Firefighters initially advanced handlines toward the front door but were able to quickly contain the fire using a water can after locating it in the kitchen. Crews then conducted a full interior search of the home and performed salvage and overhaul operations to ensure the fire had not spread beyond its point of origin.
Despite the fire being contained, smoke conditions inside the home displaced the family.
No injuries were reported.
Fire officials emphasized that working smoke detectors played a critical role in saving lives, stating that three individuals were able to escape safely because of the early alert.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
