
4 People Shot Including 10 Year Old In Black Oak
On February 20, 2025, at approximately 6:25 PM, the Gary Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the area of 5800 W. 29th Place. As officers were en route, additional calls came in, including one reporting that a 10-year-old child had been struck by gunfire, according to Gary Police.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the child’s father, who confirmed that the 10-year-old had sustained a single gunshot wound to the back of the neck. The child was in stable condition and was transported by the Gary Fire Department to Methodist Northlake Hospital before being transferred to the University of Chicago for further treatment.
While securing the crime scene in the middle of the roadway on 29th Place, officers were notified that three additional adult victims had arrived at Methodist Northlake Hospital seeking treatment for gunshot wounds. Officers responded to the hospital and interviewed the victims. One of the individuals stated they had met up with the other two victims in the street in the 5800 block of W. 29th Place when the shooting occurred between all three adult victims.
The victims have been identified as:
18-year-old male from Gary, Indiana
20-year-old male from Gary, Indiana
22-year-old male from Gary, Indiana
At this time, the investigation remains ongoing, and officers continue to gather evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. The 10-year-old victim, who was inside a residence, was not involved in the altercation and was struck by stray gunfire.
This is an isolated incident and there is no immediate threat to the community.
