45th Avenue Closure In Munster Through October
Beginning Tuesday May 27, 2025 45th Avenue over Hart Ditch will be closed to all traffic.
The closure is necessary for the safety of the traveling public and construction workers. The initial intent was to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction but upon partial demolition the bridge advanced deterioration of the concrete and reinforcing steel was discovered and maintaining traffic would have necessitated additional removal of the present structure which became a safety hazard and would have taken more time to construct the new bridge.
The safest route forward is to close the bridge for replacement. The closure will reduce the project duration and provide a safe environment for both the public and workers.
On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, 45th Avenue between White Oak Drive and Southwood Drive in Munster will be closed to traffic. The closure has been coordinated with emergency services, schools, and the post office.
Main Street will be used to detour traffic. All truck traffic is required to use Main Street. 45th Street will be reopened to traffic on October 31, 2025.
