Man Fled From Police And Rolled SUV With 4 Children Inside

On Wednesday 05/19/2021 at approximately 4:06pm, Highland Police were dispatched to Highway Avenue at Kennedy Avenue in downtown Highland where a passing motorist reported that she observed a male subject forcibly beating and dragging a female subject into a vehicle that was stopped in the middle of the roadway, according to Commander John Banasiak.

The motorist added that she observed children inside this same vehicle as well and that the vehicle subsequently drove from the area northbound on Kennedy Avenue. A Highland Patrol Officer eventually located the suspect vehicle near Kennedy Avenue at I-80/94 and upon attempting to pull the vehicle over, it fled onto westbound I-80/94 where it proceeded to recklessly pass other traffic slowed in the construction zone. The driver then lost control of the vehicle causing it to crash and flip over on the side of the expressway at Indianapolis Boulevard.

Upon Officers approach to the crashed vehicle, 4 children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years of age were found to have been inside the vehicle. The 30 year old Highland resident driving the vehicle was taken into custody and a 29 year old female was subsequently transported to the hospital, with her children, for evaluation, Banasiak said.
