Missing Woman Recovered By Merrillville Police Tuesday
On May 25th, Merrillville Police responded to the area of the 9300 block of Colorado Street in reference to a report of an object in a nearby body of water, according to Assistant Chief Kosta Nuses.
Through further investigation, it was determined that human remains had been located. With assistance from the Merrillville Fire Department, the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Lake County Crime Lab and Indiana DNR, the remains were removed from the water and transported to the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
Additional information was obtained and the decedent was later identified as Steffani Sanders, 32, of Michigan City, according to Nuses. Sanders’ family was notified of the findings and continue to cooperate with investigators.
Sanders who came up missing on March 15th by family believed Sanders was in a vehicle involved a pursuit on March 13 where one male was arrested after jumping in the river but no other person was found. The male insisted on another occupant but was never located. Multiple extensive searches over the area ended with no results. (Previous Articles Linked Below)
