BP Donates Ambulance To District Task Force Team
Representatives from BP presented one of their company fleet ambulances to the Northwest Indiana District One Task Force Mass Casualty/Medical Response Strike Team (MCMRST) in a ceremony held at the refinery Wednesday morning.
MCMRST is an all-volunteer organization, who helps local agencies and other organizations like the refinery. They provide medical care and patient evacuation during emergencies. District One encompasses five counties covering an area population of just under 1 million. While based locally, MCMRST can be called upon to respond to disasters across the US similar to when they provided aid during Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
Thomas Bettenhausen, strike team leader for District One, called the donation “an invaluable addition” and thanked bp for being a “partner willing to provide tools we need to keep Northwest Indiana safe.”
Whiting’s emergency response supervisor Robert Early, suggested the vehicle’s low mileage and overall good condition made it a fit for its new home. The unit will be used for cooling, transportation, storage and emergency scenes requiring extended operations. “At BP, we care about the communities where we live and work. We are proud to give back to the people of Northwest Indiana, specifically our heroic first responders,” Donnie Brown Vice President of Refining said.
