Two Juveniles Arrested After Robbery In Cedar Lake
On June 28th, 2021 , Cedar Lake Police Officers were called to the residence of 13902 Morse St for a robbery, according to Cedar Lake Police Chief William Fisher.
While officers were enroute to the residence, they were informed of the suspects identification, as the victim knew him, police said. Hearing the names, Cedar Lake Officer Shaun Meyer located one of the suspects, a minor, and took him into custody. He was later questioned and confessed to the entire incident, Fisher stated.
The second suspect, also a minor, was located at his residence. This suspect had a ankle monitor attached and claimed to Officers that he was not involved in the Robbery. Deputy Chief Brittingham contacted the Lake County Probation Department and it was determined that the minor suspect had in fact been at the residence of the Robbery at the time of the incident based on the GPS tracking as well as the statements from the victim. Warrants were filed against this minor and he was taken into custody as well on June 30th, after prosecutorial review, police said.
The investigation is ongoing , but both minor suspects were charged with 3 counts of Armed Robbery and 1 count of Burglary, both as adults. Chief Fisher commended the efforts of Officer Shaun Meyer, Officer Bradley Kamstra, Corporal Ryan Miller for there quick actions in response to the scene and taking into custody the 1st suspect within 30 minutes of the initial 911 call. Chief Fisher further commended the investigation efforts of Deputy Chief Brittingham for ascertaining the warrant on the second suspect and the subsequent arrest.
