Driver Loses Control Crashing Into A Home In A Busy Neighborhood

A driver who had just fled from Hammond Police Officers loses control and crashes into a busy neighborhood celebrating the holiday Sunday.

A male driver around 8:20 PM Sunday night fled at a high rate of speed from an initial traffic stop. The officer lost sight of the vehicle he was attempting to stop due to his speed and reckless driving as he was Westbound on Conkey. The driver lost control near the old rail road crossing on the 200 block striking a decorative light pole, a front porch, a few parked vehicles, before crashing into a home. Witnesses described his speeds above 70MPH.

People from neighboring front yards celebrating the holiday ran over to help the driver. Witnesses described the man as being intoxicated as he was talking after they removed him from the vehicle.

The vehicle struck the NIPSCO gas main to the home prompting an emergency NIPSCO shutoff. The driver was transported for injuries. No others were injured luckily.
