Griffith Man Struck By Motorcycle And Car Died On Scene Tuesday
Tuesday night around 10:30 PM a Griffith man was fatally struck in the area of 3300 Burr St, according to Gary Police Commander Jack Hamady.
Gary Police were dispatched for a male lying in the roadway, Hamady told RNS. On arrival the man was unresponsive and had suffered serious trauma. Nearby Gary officers located a motorcycle rider who told police something had hit him while he was riding but unsure on what it was. The rider was transported to a hospital for minor injuries. A short time later Griffith Police advised a different subject came to the station and told police they had just hit someone who was lying in the road on Burr St.
Police believe the man was walking northbound when he was struck by the motorcycle and thrown into the opposite lanes of traffic where he was then hit by the car. Neither the motorcycle rider or driver of the car showed signs of impairment. Lake County Crash Reconstruction is investigating and toxicology exams were requested.
The deceased male has been identified by The Lake County Coroner as Robert Knox Sr., 70, of Griffith. The manner of death has been ruled as an accident.
