Boater Struck By Propeller Monday In Whiting

Around 3:15 PM Monday, 9/6/2021, Hammond & Whiting Fire Department responded to Whihala Beach in Whiting for a boater that was struck by the propeller.

According to First Responders a 48-year-old Joliet man jumped off the rear of a boat after it became stuck on sand to assist with pushing it. The propeller of the motor struck the mans foot causing a severe injury. The man was transported to University of Chicago by helicopter for his injury. His current condition was not known by officials.

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the incident.
