Driver Fled From State Police Then “Dukes Of Hazzard’s” His Vehicle Over A Hill
Monday morning at approximately 3:30 a.m., Indiana State Trooper Cox was patrolling I-80/94 near Calumet Ave. when he observed a black Honda Ridgeline traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, according to Sgt. Glen Fifield.
A traffic stop was initiated; however, the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated away from the trooper. A pursuit was initiated as the vehicle continued east to Burr St. where it exited and proceeded south. As the vehicle continued on Burr St., the driver failed to stop at the T-intersection at Ridge Rd. The vehicle proceeded to vault over a hill, striking a tree approximately 15 feet off the ground, Fifield said.
The driver, later identified as Daniel Rojas Zoloaga, 41, from Glenwood, Illinois, was located in the vehicle and was unconscious. He was transported to Munster Community Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained as a result of the crash.
Mr. Zoloaga refused to consent to a blood draw at the hospital. A warrant was requested and later granted for a blood draw for a chemical test for intoxication to be performed.
In May of this year, this same individual was arrested after being involved in a vehicle pursuit with the Indiana State Police in Lake County.
