Crash In Gary With Two Airlifted
On Saturday April 23, 2022 approximately 9:58 PM Gary Officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Broadway for a vehicle crash with injuries, according to Lt. Dawn Westerfield.
Upon arrival officer discovered a 2001 GMC Yukon, driven by a 40-year-old female from Hammond, and a 2015 Nissan Altima, driven by a 59-year-old male from Gary, had collided.
Preliminary investigations determined the Yukon, which had been traveling southbound, failed to yield to northbound oncoming traffic when making a left hand turn into the gas station. The Yukon was struck by the Altima. All total of 5 parties from both vehicles required medical attention and one toddler was airlifted to a Chicago hospital from the scene. Another patient was airlifted from Methodist.
The investigation is ongoing and no update is available as to the condition of any vehicle occupants, Westerfield stated.
