Multiple Arrests In Evening Task Force In Lake County
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department Special Operations Unit along with more than a half dozen other police agencies conducted an overnight enforcement targeting vehicle thefts, drugs, violent crimes and traffic violations. The enforcement, held on August 31st, yielded multiple arrests for various offenses mostly targeting the state line area.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers arrested an Indiana resident after a pursuit. The suspect fled from a traffic stop at 165th & Hohman leading police on a chase to Calumet City where the driver dropped the car in a driveway and ran a block away to a front porch. The suspect did not realize the helicopter followed his every move leading police to his exact location. The suspect will face charges for resisting and drug offenses.
Lake County Sheriff’s Department police officers also assisted in the pursuit of a stolen 2008 Kia Sorento SUV. A 22-year-old male from Chicago Ridge was arrested and faces multiple charges. At approximately 4:19 PM, officers learned that Gary Police Department officers were pursuing the SUV westbound on I-80/94. A Lake County Sheriff’s Department officer performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, successfully stopping the fleeing vehicle just east of Calumet Avenue on I-80/94 in Hammond. The male suspect was arrested and placed into the custody of Gary police officers. Gary police impounded the SUV.
Other arrests and citations are as follows:
Schererville Police Department –Arrested one Indiana resident on a warrant and two Indiana residents for weapon offenses. They also ticketed two Indiana residents for traffic violations.
Munster Police Department – Arrested two Illinois residents and recovered a stolen vehicle in the case. Ticketed two Indiana residents; one for a traffic violation and the other for drugs. Aggravated vehicular hijacking where the two suspects were taken into custody less than an hour after carjacking an elderly man in Chicago.
Crown Point – Arrested one Indiana resident on a warrant.
Hammond – Arrested two people for warrants; one from West Virginia and the other from Indiana. Cited one Indiana resident for a traffic offense. Arrested an Indiana resident for a weapon offense and drugs.
Gary – Gary Police also recovered a Jeep that was stolen from Hammond Friday morning that was freshly painted to conceal it.
