Wanted Suspects Caught After Dramatic Chase Ending
On October 6, 2022 at approximately 1:30 PM, Hammond Police located a white KIA that was involved in an earlier burglary on Indianapolis Boulevard, according to Lt. Kellogg.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle when it fled west on 80/94. The suspect vehicle was caught in heavy traffic and struck the rear end of a semi-truck near Calumet Ave. The suspect continued to drive, striking police vehicles in an attempt to escape, Kellogg stated. The vehicle stopped and the driver fled while the passengers remained inside.
The driver was apprehended a short distance away on foot. The Kia was reported stolen and a firearm was located inside, Kellogg told RNS. The driver is a felon that is wanted through Lake County for Burglary and Unlawful Entry into a Vehicle. The passenger is a convicted felon and has a warrant out of the juvenile center for robbery.
