Lowell Fire Responds To Structure Fire Friday
On December 9th, 2022 at 8:59 AM the Lowell Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 17151 Morse Street in the Town of Lowell at a household cabinet manufacturing plant, according to Lowell Fire Officials.
The Lowell Fire Chief and Police Officers arrived at the same time to find that self-evacuation efforts had begun by the plant staff, and smoke was showing from the access doors on the North side of the structure. The Lowell Police Department and Tri-creek EMS directed the plant evaluation efforts for the production and office workers of the commercial company. There were no entrapped victims, and no injuries were reported or caused by either the fire or during the evacuation efforts, officials stated in a release.
The location of the fire was in the overhead wood dust collection system and had spread to the entire collection system both internal and external of the manufacturing plant structure. Plant personnel was attempting to extinguish the fire when the Fire Dept arrived. Due to the complexity and size of the wood dust collection system along with the additional concern of several highly explosive and volatile chemicals stored near the collection system that was on fire, additional mutual aid resources from surrounding communities were requested to control and extinguish the fire.
The fire was brought under control and extinguished with no injuries reported by any of the firefighting personnel. The origin of the fire was a commercial sanding unit at the south end of the main manufacturing production bay. Management for the manufacturing plant was cooperative and supportive of the Fire Depts’ needs during fire suppression operations.
The Lowell Fire Department thanked all the automatic and mutual aid assistance at the scene from other departments which were:
Lake County 911 Dispatch Center, Lowell Police Dept, Cedar Lake Fire Dept, Crown Point Fire Rescue, Lake Dalecarlia Fire Department, Lakes of the Four Seasons Fire Dept, Beecher Fire Protection District – Illinois, Lake Township Fire Dept – Newton Co., Hebron Fire Department – Porter Co., and Tri-Creek EMS Ambulance Service.
