Merrillville Woman Charged With Murder
On October 19, 2022 at approximately 10:27 AM, Gary Police officers responded to a stabbing in the 2200 block of Tennessee Street.
The victim’s girlfriend, Alexis Sanders, was on scene and initiated the call to 911. Officers rendered aid to the victim until Gary Fire Department Medics arrived on scene to assume responsibility for care. The 30-year-old black male, later identified as Dominique Davis of Gary, was declared deceased at Methodist Hospital Northlake the same day.
Through diligent work, officers of the Metro Homicide Unit including lead investigator Detective Corporal Daryl Gordon were able to identify Alexis Sanders, (24 from Merrillville) as a suspect. Detectives were able to gather facts indicating Alexis Sanders had fabricated her story to the 911 dispatcher, Gary officers at the scene and again to Detective Corporal Gordon. She at the time stated another male known to her as “Dre” or “Andre” had stabbed Davis.
The case was subsequently presented to the Lake County Prosecutors Office on October 31, 2022 for charging and Alexis Sanders was charged with Murder. The case was sealed by a judge due to the suspect being at large and a felony warrant issued for the arrest of Alexis Sanders.
On January 7, 2023 Alexis Sanders turned herself into the Lake County Jail and is being held without bond.
