Hammond Police Make Burglary Arrests Using LPR
The Hammond Police Department announced the successful arrest of two individuals believed to be responsible for a burglary that occurred on March 13th at the Boulevard Smoke Shop in the 1500 block of Indianapolis Blvd. Detectives utilized BlueNET, the City’s license plate reader system, along with good police detective skills to apprehend the suspects.
The investigation began on March 13th, when officers responded to a burglary alarm and the report of a burglary at this location. Detectives quickly responded to the call and began their investigation using all available resources.
After reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews with potential witnesses, detectives noticed a vehicle with a suspicious license plate number captured on the surveillance tapes. The detectives turned to BlueNET for assistance in locating the suspect vehicle which had been seen at other burglaries in NW Indiana. The license plate reader system proved to be an invaluable tool in locating the vehicle, and further investigation led to the identification and arrest of two suspects linked to the burglary. The suspects have been identified as 66-year-old David Bradford from Chicago and 58-year-old Darryl Magee from Bolingbrook, IL.
Chief of Police, William Short, praised the good work of his detectives, stating “We are very proud of the work our detectives did in solving this case. Utilizing technology like BlueNET along with good detective work and community assistance, we were able to locate and apprehend the suspects responsible for this crime.”
