Chicago Man Arrested After Burglary Through Roof

On Thursday, June 15, 2023 at approximately 4:50 AM, a 32-year-old Chicago man was arrested after he burglarized the Save More Grocery Store in the 900 block of Broadway, according to Gary Police.

Police were dispatched to the scene after the subject entered the business by breaking through the roof. Once inside he triggered the store’s alarm system, police told RNS. Police arrived on scene as the suspect was leaving. The subject began to flee but surrendered after an officer deployed K-9 “Rush.” The man was not injured by the K9. Officers arrested the suspect and located cash and burglary tools.

Officers then searched the building for other suspects and discovered two damaged ATM machines inside of the store. Money had been taken from the machines. No other suspects were found. The case will be investigated by Sgt. Jervean Gates.
