Police Investigating Homicide Of 76 Year Old Miller Man
Gary Police Detectives and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Taske Force are investigating the early Sunday morning death of a 76-year-old Miller area man.
Police were called to the 9300 block of Oak Ave. by NIPSCO workers after they were approached by male teenager covered in blood who told them that his grandfather was dead, according to Gary Police.
The 16-year-old Harvey, IL resident told police his uncle is on the run from the Chicago Police for a murder. The uncle, a 26-year-old from Dekalb, IL must have forced his way into his grandfather’s home around 7:20 AM the teenager told the police. When the teen saw his uncle, his grandfather told him to phone his mother. As he attempted to call her the uncle tried to stop him, and the uncle and grandfather began fighting.
The teenager went on to tell the officers that his uncle went into the kitchen and got a knife. He then began stabbing and cutting the older man. The young man told police his uncle then attacked and cut him as he tried to escape the home. Once outside, the victim sought help from the workers and he saw his uncle leaving in his grandfather’s maroon 2006 Honda Accord.
The teen was transported to the hospital for his injuries. Gary Police notified the Chicago Police to investigate any connections to the murder. The identity of the deceased victim is pending notifications. Check back for updates here.
