Woman Shot At Stoplight In Hammond Tuesday
On Tuesday, December 26, 2023, around 7:30 PM, a mother and daughter were driving northbound on Stateline when they were stopped at a red light on the corner of Stateline & Rimbach in Hammond when gun shots rang out, according to the victims.
The 27 year old daughter in the vehicle was struck by a single bullet in her back. The mother immediately fled the area and called 911 while she drove to the Hammond Police Station at 509 Douglas St. She was transported to an area hospital. She is currently listed in stable condition after a few surgeries.
Shot Spotter Technology in Calumet City detected 10 rounds fired about that time, according to radio traffic. Police later found rifle casings in the alley way just east of the intersection. A white pick up truck was seen fleeing the area right after the shots were fired. At this point the victims have no reason to believe they were targeted.
