SWAT Responds After Shooting In Merrillville
On 4/26/2024 at approximately 12:43 PM, the Merrillville Police Department was dispatched to the Tan-Tar-A Apartment Complex (195 E 58th Avenue) for a report of shots fired, according to Merrillville Police.
Officers responded to the scene and located one subject with a gunshot wound. Superior Medics responded to the scene and transported the subject to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Officers on scene were advised that the possible shooter(s) had entered a nearby apartment building after the incident happened. The Merrillville Tactical Apprehension Squad (MTAS) was called to the scene to assist patrol officers in locating the suspects.
MTAS members and Merrillville detectives located a few subjects of interest and spoke with them about the shooting. They also checked all nearby buildings and verified that no one else was injured due to this incident.
Andrean High School was placed on a temporary lockdown due to this incident taking place in close proximity to the school.
This investigation is in its preliminary stages and more information will be released at a later date, Police said.
