Fatal Crash Left One Teen Dead In Jasper County
On May 22, 2024, at 5 PM, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of CR 800 N and CR 400 W.
First responders arrived quickly and discovered that several individuals were in urgent need of advanced medical care. Two medi-vac helicopters and multiple ambulances were promptly requested to provide the necessary aid, according to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.
The initial investigation revealed that a white Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible, carrying four juvenile males, was traveling northbound on CR 400 W. As the Mitsubishi approached the intersection with CR 800 N, it observed the northbound stop sign but then, for reasons unknown, proceeded into the intersection. At that moment, a 2023 Ford F250 truck, driven by a 50-year-old from Rensselaer, was traveling westbound on CR 800 N, where there is no stop sign for eastbound and westbound traffic. Tragically, the Mitsubishi entered the intersection and was struck on the passenger side by the westbound F250. The impact caused the F250 to overturn onto its side, and the Mitsubishi sustained heavy damage, coming to rest in the front yard of a nearby residence.
Tragically, one young male from the Mitsubishi was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in the collision. Two others were airlifted to receive critical care for their injuries, and a fourth was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the F250 was transported by Jasper County EMS for observation.
At this time, it does not appear that alcohol, drugs, or speed were factors in the collision.
The roadway was closed for approximately three hours to allow for a thorough investigation and the safe removal of the vehicles. The Sheriff’s Office offered their deepest condolences go out to all those affected by this tragic event.
