Gary Father Charged With Murder In Death Of 2 Year Old
On November 4, 2024, at approximately 5:30 PM, Gary Police Department received a call for service at a residence in the 300 block of Arthur Street, in Gary. The call for service was an agency assist to assist Gary Fire Department with a small infant child that was not breathing, according to Gary Police.
Officers arrived on scene along with Gary Fire Department and discovered a 2 year old child inside the house that was not breathing and appeared to be lifeless. The male who identified himself as the father advised that the child was in the bathtub when he discovered him not breathing. He began performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) to restore the juvenile’s breathing, but was unsuccessful. Gary Fire Department transported the 2-year-old child to Methodist Northlake Hospital.
The Gary Police Department officers on scene and Gary Fire Department observed some swelling to the child and at that time notified supervisors to contact Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force, as well as Lake County Coroner and Lake County Sherriff Crime Scene Investigations.
Members of the Homicide Task Force began a death investigation awaiting the autopsy. The Lake County Coroner ruled the death a homicide with blunt force trauma. The father was taken into custody for questioning.
The Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force presented charges to Lake County Prosecutor’s Office and charges were secured on a Ricky Larkin for (1) count Murder. Ricky Larkin is in custody Lake County Jail.
