Update – Body Cam Video Released Of Suspect Swinging Machete At Undercover Officers Head
Gary Police have released footage from an incident which occurred on November 13th at approximately 12:20 PM, in the 3400 block of Maryland Street in Gary.
Members of the Gary Police Department’s Investigation Unit conducted an operation involving an undercover officer. During this interaction, the suspect attacked the officer with a machete-style weapon. The nearby reaction team witnessed the encounter and an officer discharged their firearm at the suspect.
Following multiple robbery reports related to social media marketplace transactions, the Gary Police Department proactively initiated this under-cover operation. The undercover officer that was violently attacked was treated and released from an area hospital.
“It is essential for residents to trust their local police to protect the most vulnerable members of the community. To demonstrate our unwavering commitment to transparency and accountability, we have decided to make this information public,” Gary Police said.
