The Hammond Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 7300 block of Columbia Avenue at approximately 11 PM, on November 16th. Officers arrived to discover two individuals had been shot, Hammond Police said.
One victim, a 17-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Chicago hospital for treatment. The second victim, an 18-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. This male was later identified as Jakayo Clark, of Hammond.
Preliminary evidence suggests a possible exchange of gunfire between individuals. Detectives are working to determine the motive and identify any additional parties who may have been involved.
