Fatal Crash Early Thanksgiving

On 11/28/24, at approximately 12:25 AM, Porter County Sheriff’s Officers responded to US Highway 30 in the area of County Road 450 E for an unknown crash, according to Porter County Sheriff’s Police. Dispatch had received a call that one of the vehicles involved, a 2005 Ford Focus, was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes.

Initial investigation shows, the Ford Focus, while traveling the wrong direction on US 30 collided head on with a 2015 Toyota Rav 4 that was traveling eastbound. After this collision, the Focus came to a rest in the westbound lanes of US 30. The vehicle did not have any lights illuminating it at this time and was then struck by three more vehicles at separate times.

The driver of the Focus who is from out of state was unfortunately pronounced deceased on-scene by medical personnel. All other drivers sustained minor injuries. The deceased driver was identified by the Porter County Deputy Coroner as 54-year-old Ricardo Watson, of Chicago. Toxicology is pending.
