Apartment Fire In Crown Point Overnight
At approximately 3:24 AM, on December 8, 2024, the Crown Point Fire Department was dispatched to the 900 block of Cypress Point Drive for a structure fire at an apartment building.
The first arriving fire crews were met with heavy fire conditions already extending into the roof. Crown Point Police officers alerted neighboring residents and began evacuations as an aggressive fire attack and search were initiated, Crown Point Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Cusack said. The fire was brought under control in about one hour and responders were clear of the scene by 7:15 AM. No injuries were reported, but sadly one dog did perish, Cusack said. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
The apartment building involved has 36 units. Four were completely destroyed, and four additional units have smoke and water damage. The American Red Cross responded to the scene at the fire department’s request and is providing residents with temporary accommodations.
The Crown Point Fire Department thanked the following agencies for their assistance: Crown Point Emergency Management Agency, Merrillville Fire Department, Cedar Lake Fire Department, Lowell Indiana Fire Department, Lake Hills Fire Department, Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, Schererville Fire Department, Union Township Fire Department, and Boone Grove Fire Department.
