Gary SWAT Executes Warrant In Hammond
On January 29, 2025 members of the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force along with Gary Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) executed a search warrant at a residence in the 6300 block of Tennessee Street, Hammond, according to Gary Commander Jack Hamady.
Gary SWAT secured the residence and Damonte S Crawford “aka Damonte S. Jones” was taken into custody. Crawford was found hiding in the basement by Gary Police K9 “Rush.” “Rush” was announced and Crawford did not come out. “Rush” went into the area and apprehended Crawford.
Damonte S Crawford was transported to the Lake County Jail where he will be confined.
This warrant stems from an incident on January 21, 2025, around 10:30 PM, where the Gary Police Department responded to a report of a possible gunshot victim at a residence in the 2100 block of Delaware Street in Gary.
Upon arrival, officers located a 22-year-old female from East Chicago, who had sustained a gunshot wound. She was transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital by the Gary Fire Department for medical treatment. Inside the residence, officers discovered a 26-year-old male from Gary, unresponsive in the kitchen. That male was pronounced deceased at the scene. A third victim, identified as a 31-year-old male from Chicago, Illinois, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen and was transported to Methodist Northlake Hospital by a private party.
The deceased was identified by the Lake County Coroner as Darian Hilson, 26, of Gary.
Damonte S Crawford was charged on January 24, 2025, with (1) Murder, (2) Attempted Murder charges and (3) Firearm Enhancements, while using a firearm during a commission of a crime.
A second individual was taken into custody as well and charges will be presented to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office in the morning.
