Sunday Morning Shots Fired Leads To Arrest Of Two Illegal Immigrants In East Chicago

On February 2, 2025, at approximately 10:00 AM, East Chicago Police Officers were dispatched to 2525 Cardinal Drive in reference to shots fired, according to Chief Jose Rivera.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the resident, who stated that an occupant of a small white van fired shots at his residence as it drove by. Nobody was injured, but the residence sustained damage from the gunfire.

A short time later, Gary Police advised that they had the offending vehicle stopped in their city. The vehicle was impounded back to East Chicago for processing and 2 subjects were taken into custody. The EC Criminal Investigation Division and C.S.I. were called out to investigate the shooting.

Preliminary investigation indicates that both subjects that were taken into custody are illegal immigrants, Rivera stated. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (I.C.E.) was contacted to assist with the investigation. This is an ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
