Oak Brook Police Apprehend Motor Vehicle Thieves With Hammond Ties

Oak Brook, IL— On 01/31/2025 at approximately 2:55 AM, Oak Brook Police officers responded to York Woods subdivision for a delayed suspicious incident report. While enroute to the area officers located a dark colored Nissan Rogue with Indiana registration; and a Hyundai Sonata with Illinois registration later to be determined stolen from the 100 block of Sheffield exiting the subdivision, according Oak Brook Police.

Officers activated their emergency lights and pursued the vehicles onto eastbound 22nd St. into Westchester. Both occupants of the Sonata exited the vehicle, and a foot pursuit ensued in the area of Mayfair Ave. and Oxford St. At about 3:28AM with the assistance of the Westchester Police Department, one offender later identified as Xavier E. Walker, and the second offender identified as a 17-year-old juvenile out of Chicago were taken into custody.

Information gathered by Officers indicated a connection to Burglary to Motor Vehicles that occurred the night before in Hammond, IN.

During the investigation, Detectives learned that the offenders entered several vehicles and mailboxes in Oak Brook with the intention of taking items of value.

The Oak Brook Police Department was notified by the Chicago Police Department of an incident involving the Nissan Rogue in their jurisdiction shortly after the Oak Brook incident. The two male occupants of the Nissan Rogue attempted an Armed Robbery of a Sanitation Service employee in Chicago later that morning. The victim in that case is a CCL holder who shot both offenders during the Armed Robbery attempt.

Walker has been charged with a Class 2 Felony – Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, a Class 4 Felony – Possession of Burglary Tools, and charged with Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer.

A juvenile arrested in connection with this incident was charged with a Class 2 Felony- Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and was transported to Kane County Juvenile Detention Center.

Chief Strockis stated, “This incident illustrates the importance of calling 911 when you observe anything out of the ordinary in your neighborhood which was done by an alert resident in this case. I’d like to thank our officers for responding to the area so quickly, locating the vehicles involved and making arrests. Criminals will be apprehended should they choose to flee from the Oak Brook police as demonstrated time and again.
