Crown Point Man Charged With Multiple Thefts & Burglaries In Valparaiso

Valparaiso Police assigned to investigate multiple thefts, burglaries, and auto thefts from a business over a course of months, yields arrest of a Crown Point man, according to court documents.

Police were investigating numerous property theft reports that occurred between September of 2024 through February of 2025 at ARC America, 54 N. 400 E Porter in Valparaiso, court records stated. These thefts included fuel cards, vehicles, and other equipment located in trucks.

On February 8, 2025 around 10:32 PM police were dispatched to ARC for a suspicious person on the property. On arrival of officers, a subject took off running and jumping multiple fences. The subject was chased down by officers and eventually taken into custody. The male subject was found to have several ARC fuel cards on their person. He was arrested and transported to Valparaiso Police Department for further questioning.

During the course of the investigation it was learned this male subject was arrested in October in a stolen ARC truck in Merrillville. Camera footage from the previous months incidents also showed this same subject coming onto the property through a cut hole in the fence and then allegedly stealing items.

The subject when questioned by police said, he use to work at ARC but was fired in 2023. He went on to tell police that he just wanted to look at some of the equipment and identify if any of his old coworkers still worked there by entering the trucks.

Utilizing License Plate Reader Cameras, police were also able to pin the males vehicle near ARC with matching times on surveillance camera footage of break ins.

The subject, now lodged in Porter County Jail has been identified as Christian Felkamp, 24, of Crown Point. Felkamp faces charges of Burglary Level 5 Felony, Resisting Law Enforcement causing injury Level 6 Felony, Theft (Misdemeanor), Criminal Trespass (Misdemeanor), and Unauthorized Entry of Motor Vehicle (Misdemeanor).

Kelkamp currently has a pending case in Lake County for Burglary in November of 2024, as well as a pending case for Fraud and Theft in Lake County from October of 2024.
