Fatal Crash In Merrillville Saturday
On 4/12/2025 at approximately 1:30 PM, Merrillville Police officers were dispatched to the 8700 block of Taft Street (SR 55) in reference to a three-vehicle crash, according to Merrillville Police.
Officers arrived a short time later and observed several vehicles with significant damage. Two of the drivers had to be cut out of their vehicles by the Merrillville Fire Department. One of the drivers was immediately flown to a Chicago area hospital due to the severity of their injuries. This driver was later pronounced deceased by the hospital doctors. The second driver was taken to a local hospital for their injuries and then later flown to a Chicago area hospital. This driver is currently listed in critical condition.
The Merrillville Police Department Crash Team was called to the scene and began to investigate. Their investigation was delayed due to a vehicle going around police vehicles/barricades and ignoring police officer commands. The driver of this vehicle was arrested and the crash team was able to safely continue their investigation. This is an ongoing investigation and will be for several weeks.
