Cedar Lake Woman Charged with Dealing Drugs That Caused Death

On February 7, 2025, the Hammond Police Department was dispatched to investigate a substance abuse incident that occurred between February 6 and 7, 2025.

According to court documents, the Hammond Police Department was called to a residence on the 6800 block of Ridgeland Avenue in reference to an overdose death. The reporting party advised that he found a family member deceased and lying on his back in a bedroom. The officer observed a white rock like substance, a plastic baggie with a brown powdery substance, a crack pipe and a rolled dollar bill. The rock-like substance field tested positive for cocaine, and weighed 2.9 grams. The brown substance field tested positive for both heroin and fentanyl, and weighed 0.3 grams.

The investigating officer reviewed the Lake County Coroner’s report, which indicated the victim died from the toxic effects of cocaine and fentanyl due to cocaine and fentanyl overdose, according to court documents.
During the investigation, the victim’s cell phone content was reviewed. The officer was able to observe numerous phone calls and texts to a “Lexx” in the early evening hours of February 6, 2025. The texts stated “Lexx” “ You should pick up that thing before you come” and “Lexx” texts back “I got the smoke and I got the boy.” The investigation revealed the telephone number belonged to Alexis Bahm, and the location records for that phone revealed that the suspect’s phone was in the range of the 6800 block of Ridgeland Avenue in the time frame surrounding the death of the victim.

According to court documents, the police interviewed Alexis Bahm after advising her of her constitutional rights. During the interview, Bahm stated on February 6, 2025, she sold the victim heroin and crack cocaine in exchange for $200 at the location in the 6800 block of Ridgeland Avenue. She also stated she did not mean to kill the victim, and that she thought the confusion stemmed from the heroin needing to be “cut” before its use, which she was unaware of at the time.
Bahm is currently lodged in Tippecanoe County Jail on other drug related charges.

On April 15, 2025, Alexis N. Bahm was charged with:

Dealing in a Controlled Substance Resulting in Death: F1 Felony

Dealing in Cocaine: F5 Felony

Dealing in a Narcotic Drug: F5 Felony (2 counts)
