Pregnant Woman and Man Dead in Gary Murder-Suicide
Authorities are investigating a tragic incident that left two young adults dead late Friday night in Gary.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Chasity Shorter, a 21-year-old woman who was four months pregnant, and Brice Taylor, a 21-year-old man, were both found deceased at an apartment complex on Clark Road.
Emergency services were called around 11:22 p.m. on May 16, 2025, to the scene. Shorter, who lived nearby on Clark Street, was pronounced dead at 11:45 p.m. An autopsy later confirmed she died from gunshot wounds, and her death has been ruled a homicide.
Taylor, a resident of Hammond, was also pronounced dead at 11:50 p.m. His autopsy determined the cause of death as a gunshot wound, with the manner of death ruled a suicide.
The Gary Police Department and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
