Man Charged with Drug Dealing and Gun Offenses Following Police Pursuit
A 29-year-old Gary man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he fled a traffic stop and was later found with large quantities of suspected narcotics, marijuana, and stolen firearms.
According to court documents, on June 13, 2025, a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a silver SUV near East 26th Street and Broadway due to several traffic violations, including no seat belt and non-working brake lights. The driver, identified as Davonta Davis Rufus Horde, reportedly told the officer he did not have a driver’s license.
As the officer returned to his squad car, Horde allegedly fled at a high speed, ran stop signs, and was involved in a crash near Jackson Street following a police-initiated PIT maneuver. He then ran from the vehicle before being caught and arrested.
Court documents state a baggie of suspected narcotics was located in Horde’s pocket, and a search of the vehicle revealed a Glock handgun in the center console and a backpack containing:
- 5.8 grams of suspected fentanyl
- 44.7 grams of multicolored suspected MDMA pills
- 471.3 grams (1.03 pounds) of marijuana
- 10 suspected amphetamine pills
- 10.3 grams of suspected cocaine in nine baggies
- Digital scales and plastic baggies
- Two Glock handguns, both confirmed stolen
Authorities stated that Horde was previously convicted of aggravated battery in 2016, classifying him as a serious violent felon and prohibiting him from possessing firearms.
Davonta Davis Rufus Horde, 29, is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.

- Resisting Law Enforcement Using a Vehicle – Level 6 Felony
- Reckless Driving Causing Property Damage – Class B Misdemeanor
- Resisting Law Enforcement (Fleeing on Foot) – Class A Misdemeanor
- Possession of a Controlled Substance (Schedule I–IV) – Class A Misdemeanor
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Class B Misdemeanor
- Operating a Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License – Class C Misdemeanor
