Semi Driver Charged After High-Speed Pursuit Through Residential Area

Robert Lewis Scott, 57, of Westville, has been charged after leading officers on a high-speed chase through residential areas in a fully loaded semi-truck, according to police and court records.

On the night of June 30, 2025, Officer Joshua Bodnar of the Kouts Police Department was completing a traffic stop when dispatch alerted him to a reckless driver complaint involving a semi-truck. Bodnar spotted the orange tractor-trailer hauling a full load of logs traveling at 77 mph in a 55 mph zone with hazard lights on, weaving through traffic, crossing the center line, and running a red light in Kouts.

When the officer activated his emergency lights and siren, the driver did not stop, prompting a pursuit that continued into Starke County. The chase ended at the intersection of State Road 8 and State Road 39, where officers boxed in the vehicle. After stopping, the driver—identified as Robert Lewis Scott—allegedly resisted officers during his arrest.

On July 2, 2025, Scott was formally charged with the following offenses:

  • Resisting Law Enforcement using a vehicle (Level 6 Felony)
  • Reckless Driving causing bodily injury (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Resisting Law Enforcement by force (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • Reckless Driving at unsafe speed (Class C Misdemeanor)

Scott is currently lodged in the Porter County Jail.
