Gary Man Charged in Armed Robbery Over Designer Watch

A Gary man has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly pulling a gun on two women during a meetup to purchase a high-end watch, then fleeing with the stolen items.

The charges against Quincy D. Jones were filed on July 2, 2025, following a police investigation into an armed robbery that occurred on June 22, 2025, in the parking lot of a Walgreens on Grant Street.

According to court documents, Jones, 33, arranged the meeting through a resale app. He initially directed the victims to an address on Polk Street, but the parties agreed to relocate to a public location. Surveillance footage from Walgreens captured a red Dodge Dart arriving at approximately 1:48 p.m., with Jones exiting the passenger side.

Shortly after approaching the sellers, Jones allegedly returned to the vehicle, retrieved a handgun from under his arm, and confronted them. He reportedly stated he was going to need everything they had. As the victims backed away, he raised the firearm and warned them that if they moved, he would shoot them where they stood. He then took a designer watch and a wallet before fleeing eastbound on 25th Avenue in the Dodge Dart.

According to investigators, the suspect vehicle was later found behind a residence on Polk Street. Officers located two individuals at the scene. Jones initially hid inside the residence but later surrendered.

Jones initially denied possessing a firearm but later admitted to having one after being shown video evidence. He claimed to have hidden the weapon in an abandoned house, though investigators were unable to locate it. Surveillance footage from the interview room also captured Jones calling someone and instructing them to go in the attic and get the watch and hide it in the Cadillac, suggesting an attempt to conceal stolen evidence.

Jones has a prior conviction for Aggravated Robbery in Cook County, Illinois, in 2024.

He was charged on July 2, 2025, with:

    •    Armed Robbery: Level 3 Felony

    •    Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon: Level 4 Felony

    •    Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon (Two Counts): Level 5 Felony

    •    Theft: Level 6 Felony

Quincy Jones is currently lodged in the Lake County Jail.
