Gary Woman Charged After Gun Incident at Griffith Pool Hall
A Gary woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly pulling a gun and causing a disturbance during an altercation at a Griffith pool hall early Tuesday morning.
According to court documents, officers responded around 12:15 a.m. on July 16, 2025, to Griffith Billiards in the 100 block of South Broad Street for a report of a female waving a firearm. Upon arrival, an officer was flagged down by a witness who pointed out the woman involved, later identified as Mycah Shelae Smith.
Smith, 22, was found to have a black Taurus 9mm semi-automatic handgun holstered at her waist. Officers noted she appeared intoxicated, with slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and the odor of alcohol on her breath. The handgun was secured and found to have a chambered hollow point round.
Surveillance footage reviewed by police showed Smith and others playing pool when a verbal argument began. As one individual turned to take a shot at the table, Smith allegedly shoved him with both hands, knocking him into the table. Both then raised their pool sticks in a threatening manner before a third person stepped between them.
Footage then shows Smith stepping back, lifting her shirt, and drawing a black semi-automatic firearm. She racked the slide, ejecting a live round onto the floor, and began pacing back and forth with the loaded weapon in her hand. The individual she argued with returned to the pool table while Smith continued to yell and point in his direction.
At one point, Smith allegedly moved the gun to her right hand, activated a rail-mounted light and laser, and raised the firearm—pointing it directly at the man. Another person eventually intervened, convincing her to lower and reholster the weapon.
Smith was arrested outside the business, placed in restraints, and searched by a female officer. While being placed in the squad car, Smith reportedly continued yelling and refused to comply, at one point placing her leg to block the car door from closing. She was transported to the Lake County Jail, where she was booked.
Smith was also trespassed from the establishment following the incident.
