Early Morning Homicide In East Chicago

On July 18, 2025, at approximately 12:49 a.m., officers were patrolling the Sunnyside area of East Chicago when they heard shots fired in the area. Shotspotter immediately alerted to 10 rounds being fired in the vicinity of 2608 E. 141st Street. Officers began to search the area and located 2 vehicles that sustained damage from the gunfire and several shell casings on the ground.

While officers continued to search for a suspect, they were notified by the dispatch center that St Catherine Hospital had an individual with a gunshot wound that was dropped off at the emergency room. Officers proceeded to St Catherine Hospital to speak with the victim, but unfortunately, he was unresponsive. Medical personnel advised officers that a heavy set Hispanic male dropped off the victim and left.

The victim was in critical condition and was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Criminal Investigation Division and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force were called out to investigate the homicide. The victim is a 27-year-old male from East Chicago. The victims identity will be withheld until the family is notified.
