Arrest Made in 2017 Fatal Shooting in Gary
According to court documents, a Gary man has been arrested and charged nearly eight years after a fatal shooting that occurred during an alleged drug-related robbery.
Anthony Lamont Triplett Jr., 27, was taken into custody on July 17, 2025, on charges stemming from a November 2, 2017 homicide in which Diego Serna was killed and another man was seriously wounded. The shooting occurred outside an apartment complex in the 400 block of South Huntington Street in Gary. Investigators allege the victims were lured to the location under the pretense of a marijuana sale. A masked individual reportedly ambushed them, opened fire, and fled the scene.
Court documents show the case remained under investigation for several years before Triplett was identified as a suspect and named in a warrant filed in January 2023. Court records list two co-defendants in the case: Augustus Joseph Johnson III and Marcell Dariyon Ellison.
