
Officer-Involved Shooting in East Chicago Following ShotSpotter Alert
Around 6:00 PM on Tuesday, East Chicago Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert reporting gunfire in the 5000 block of Melville Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located a male victim in an alley between Kennedy and Melville suffering from a graze wound. While rendering aid, officers observed a possible suspect moving between houses nearby. A foot pursuit ensued, during which an officer-involved shooting occurred between the armed suspect and East Chicago Police.

The suspect was struck and transported to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in critical condition.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has taken over the investigation. East Chicago Police have not released additional information or provided a public statement at this time.
