Care Facility Worker Accused of Battering Disabled Client in Hobart

A woman from Lake Station is facing felony charges after allegedly battering a disabled client during a nighttime altercation at a care facility in Hobart.

According to court documents, the incident occurred around 11:01 p.m. on June 16, 2025, at a facility located in the 1400 block of St. Mary Circle in Hobart. The suspect, identified as Cleveneatha Lloyd, 55, was reportedly working through a staffing agency at the time.

Management staff provided surveillance footage to police, which reportedly showed two women—identified by staff as Lloyd and the client—falling to the ground. The video showed Lloyd taking a moment to put her wig and shoes back on before approaching the client, who remained on the ground and appeared unable to get up. Lloyd was then seen on top of the client for several minutes while the client’s legs moved as if trying to rise. An unidentified individual stood nearby during the altercation but did not intervene.

Court documents state the client, who has been diagnosed with early-stage dementia but was alert and coherent, recalled the entire incident. She told investigators she became upset after Lloyd repeatedly told her to “go away” and “mind her own business.” The client said she then threw Lloyd’s wig. In response, Lloyd allegedly pushed her to the ground, causing both to fall. While on the ground, Lloyd reportedly sat on the client’s chest, holding her left shoulder to prevent her from getting up. At one point, Lloyd allegedly placed her knee on the client’s neck, making it difficult for the client to breathe. The client told police she was physically restrained for several minutes and expressed a desire to pursue criminal charges for the battering.

Cleveneatha Lloyd was formally charged on July 22, 2025, and was lodged in the Lake County Jail on July 25, 2025.

Charges Filed July 22, 2025:

    •    Battery Against a Disabled Person – Level 6 Felony
