
Man Shot During Workplace Dispute in Michigan City
MICHIGAN CITY — Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Thursday morning near 5th Street and Michigan Boulevard, leaving one man hospitalized in serious condition.
At approximately 11:37 a.m. on July 31, 2025, officers from Uniform Patrol Shift I were dispatched to the area following reports of gunshots. Shortly afterward, dispatch received information that a man who had been shot at the intersection was being transported to Franciscan Hospital in a private vehicle.
Investigators determined that 31-year-old Tamaras Harris, a Michigan City resident, was on break from work at a nearby business when he became involved in an argument with a coworker. The dispute escalated, resulting in Harris being shot.
He was initially taken to Franciscan Hospital and later transferred to a hospital in South Bend for advanced treatment. He is currently listed in serious condition.
Michigan City Police Department’s Investigative Division responded to the scene and has taken over the investigation. Det./Cpl. Deshone Harris has been assigned as lead investigator. As of this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
