Gary Man Charged With Attempted Murder, Arson
According to court documents, 23-year-old Terrance Deangelo Taylor of Gary has been charged after allegedly stabbing his mother multiple times inside their home near the 1300 block of Willard Street in Gary and then setting the residence on fire on September 10, 2025.
Investigators said the victim told officers she had fallen asleep at the kitchen table when Taylor came up behind her and began stabbing her in the back and neck with a steak knife. She reported that after being attacked, she was shoved down a set of stairs and prevented from calling 911 when Taylor grabbed her phone. She said Taylor demanded her car keys and made statements such as, “You should have let me die.”
The victim was able to escape by running to her car and driving to the Gary Police Department. She was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and later transferred for advanced treatment of her injuries.
When officers arrived at the Willard Street residence, they discovered the house on fire. Fire investigators determined the blaze was intentionally set in a southwest bedroom using a flammable liquid. Court documents also cite text messages Taylor allegedly sent to his sister in which he admitted using a flammable liquid to ignite the fire.
Police arrested Taylor in the early morning hours of September 11, 2025, at Brunswick Park in Gary while utilizing Gary K9 “Rush.” Officers noted dried red stains on his pants and shoes, two cell phones in his possession, and multiple debit cards — several belonging to his mother. Investigators said one of the phones also had what appeared to be red stains on it.
