Merrillville Woman Accused of Stabbing Hairstylist During Dispute Over Missed Appointment
A 36-year-old Merrillville woman has been charged in Lake County after police say she stabbed a hairstylist during a fight inside a local salon following a canceled appointment.
According to court documents, officers were called to the 5400 block of Broadway on September 11, 2025, for a reported battery. The stylist told police she canceled the client’s appointment because she arrived late and became aggressive. She said the client, identified as Takary Meosha Sims, pulled a pocketknife from her purse during a scuffle and stabbed her twice in the left arm before threatening to kill her and fleeing with her child.
Witnesses told investigators they saw Sims slash the stylist and heard her threaten to return with a gun and shoot up the business. One witness said Sims admitted afterward that she had stabbed the stylist before leaving in a dark SUV. Surveillance video reviewed by detectives reportedly showed Sims leaving a booth with her daughter, followed by the stylist. The footage then captured Sims reaching into her purse and swinging a knife as the two fought in the hallway.
Police said Sims later walked into the Merrillville Police Department, identified herself, and admitted to stabbing the stylist, claiming she acted in self-defense after being attacked in front of her daughter. She also admitted she threatened to shoot the business but told officers she did not actually have a gun.
The victim was treated at Southlake Methodist Hospital for two lacerations on her left arm that required stitches.
