Gary Police Investigating Fatal Shooting on Ridge Road
GARY — Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 21-year-old Michigan City man dead late Wednesday night in Gary.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, investigators were dispatched at 10:42 p.m. on September 10, 2025, to the alley behind 526 E. Ridge Road. The victim was identified as Christian Barnes, 21, of Michigan City, IN.
Barnes was pronounced deceased at 11:30 p.m. by a Lake County Coroner’s investigator. A forensic autopsy performed the following day at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point determined that Barnes died from gunshot wounds. His death has been ruled a homicide.
The Gary Police Department, Gary Fire Department, Lake County Sheriff’s CSI, and the Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force all responded and are continuing the investigation.
