Lowell Man Arrested in Griffith After Claiming to Be Officer
A Lowell man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after police say he claimed to be an officer, carried stolen mail, and was later found with methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia during a suspicious person investigation in Griffith.
According to court documents, on September 25, 2025, at approximately 10:25 a.m., Griffith police responded to the 100 block of North Indiana Street after a caller reported a suspicious person walking through yards. Officers found Ethan Patrick Meyer, 26, of Lowell, wearing a maroon sweater and jeans and walking in the alley. Meyer told officers he was going to his friend’s house. When asked if he was going through people’s yards, Meyer stated he was and was just doing his little thing. Officers described him as disheveled, speaking slowly with slurred words, and appearing confused.
A resident confronted Meyer about being in his yard, and Meyer allegedly pushed the man before officers arrived. Meyer told police he knew the man and said he was his uncle, but the neighbor confirmed he did not know Meyer.
Due to his behavior, officers asked Meyer if he had used any drugs. Meyer stated he did. Meyer then said he had something to give us that would make us a lot happier and pulled several envelopes from under his sweatshirt. When asked if the mail was his, Meyer stated it was. The envelopes later showed different names and addresses. The mail was collected and returned, and the U.S. Postal Inspector was notified.
Meyer was again asked if he used drugs that day, and Meyer stated he had not. When officers asked if they could check his pockets to make sure, Meyer denied and said, no you cannot because I am an officer of the law. When asked to show his badge, Meyer showed officers Superior Court of Lake County Criminal Probation Department documents. He was asked where he was an officer at, to which he responded with the documents.
Officers searched Meyer and found tin foil containing a white rock-like substance, a plastic bag with a green leafy material, a mini torch, and a dog bone. TruNarc field testing confirmed the substances as methamphetamine and marijuana.
At the Griffith Police Department, Meyer stated he had taken some molly and said it was just a small rock.
