
Lake County Jury Convicts Man of Attempted Rape, Confinement, Battery
Crown Point— Lake County Prosecutor Bernard A. Carter announced yesterday that a Lake County jury has returned a guilty verdict in the case of State of Indiana v. Dominique Demetrius Gee (Cause No. 45G01-2408-F3-000092).
Court documents state that Dominique Demetrius Gee was charged in Lake County after an attempted rape on August 1, 2024, outside the Days Inn on Calumet Avenue in Hammond. Police reports show the victim told officers Gee struck her and tried to pull her behind a fence before she escaped after a witness pulled into the lot. Gee fled but was later found walking near Hohman Avenue, where he gave a false name and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
Gee was convicted of the following counts:
• Count I: Attempted Rape, a Level 3 Felony
• Count II: Criminal Confinement, a Level 4 Felony
• Count III: Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury, a Class A Misdemeanor
• Count IV: Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor
• Count V: Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor
• Repeat Sex Offender Enhancement
Prosecutor Carter extended his congratulations to Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Jacquelyn Altpeter and Tara Villarreal for their work and dedication to the case. He also thanked Hammond Police Officers D. Markert, Seles, Thompson, Scherwin, and Corporal Flores, along with the Hammond Police Department and all law enforcement who continue to work to keep Lake County neighborhoods safe.
Sentencing has been scheduled for November 7, 2025, at 8 a.m.
