60-Year-Old Rensselaer Man Accused of Attempted Home Entry
Rensselaer- A Rensselaer man has been charged in Jasper County after police say he attempted to force entry into a residence, setting off a motion sensor alarm before being confronted by officers.
According to a probable cause affidavit, on October 1, 2025, around 7:40 a.m., dispatch received a 911 call from a woman who reported that someone was trying to break into her home in the 600 block of West Milroy Avenue. While officers were en route, dispatch advised that the suspect was inside the residence.
When police arrived, they observed Kenneth Collins, 60, sitting on a moped in the driveway. The homeowner told officers she did not know Collins and that he had no reason to be at the property. She reported that Collins had applied enough force to the back door to trigger the motion sensor alarm. Officers noted the door was still locked with a deadbolt but confirmed the alarm sensors would only be activated if force was applied .
Collins allegedly told officers he was at the home to speak with the owner about a house for rent on Fleming Boulevard in Rensselaer. The homeowner and her husband advised police they did not own any other property in the city .
